Malthouse Road,
Service varies depending on who serves you. They are capable of being polite and helpful but one member of staff in particular was extremely rude. The final straw was taking in a bike I had bought from them and being lumbered with a bill for nearly £100 including new bottom bracket and chainset, despite expressly requesting simply a tune-up of the brakes and gears and no further work being quoted for. All this from a bike still supposedly under warranty. Take your custom elsewhere.
I took my mountain bike in for a service and overhaul as it hadn't been used in a while as was extremely disappointed with the service. I was told I'd receive a phone call to discuss the work before undertook any and I didn't, they simply proceeded without my permission and presented me with a bill at the end and told the bike was in perfect working order after replacing several parts. Then soon after the bike has problems with gears, the front derailer and huge amounts of creaking all over. Would never go back.
I am British Cyclings go-ride coach for Kent, and Downlands is the first place I asked to service all of my bikes. They are superbly organised, friendly and welcoming (usually with tea!) and most importantly they are good retailers. They have well trained staff in proper uniform who are there to help. Even if you have 30 odd dirty bikes to sort out. Cheers Brian Julie, the guys & the dogs!
I must say the service I recieved was exceptional, even though my knowledge is limited they didnt make me feel small, everything was explained perfectly and I now have a great set of lights! - Definately my best bike shop experience and highly reccomended.
