2 Church Street,
Chaplin's advertises itself as an "English Restaurant" and this is precisely what it is. Located in the very centre of Dover, near the Market Square and on the way back from the castle, it's a small place that serves decent traditional food in cosy surroundings decorated with a bit of a film theme. In fact, the cosiness (or crampedness is probably the main drawback of the place). Foodwise, what you can expect is similar to decent pub food, with roasts playing the main part. I had a roast beef with all the trimmings on my best-remembered visit and it was fine – nothing exceptional, but nicely done, with good gravy and vegetables that were not from frozen and not overcooked. Prices are similar to standard pub fare, service can be a bit slow but not terrible. All in all, not a bad option at all if looking for proper food in the centre of Dover.
